#WearItPink Walk for Breast Cancer Now
“It was such a uniting thing to do,” said Eileen Mackie. A participant from our Monday Anti-Ageing Pilates classes in Epping who joined us with her granddaughter to walk the length of Epping as a show of solidarity to all those who lives have been touched by breast cancer.
We were inspired by friend in fitness, Mary Huckle, who Karen interviewed before the event. Mary was putting on a whole day of pink events in her home town, Bush Hill Park, Enfield.
We had a school inset day on the 19th so we were inspired to do something bold to show solidarity for so many people we know who have been touched by cancer.
We wanted to walk through Epping’s town centre. All in pink.
Touched by Breast Cancer
The group was mainly made up of women from our Pilates classes but also friends and school friends. We all walked for different reasons but all to support women we know who have been touched by breast cancer. Mums, friends, aunts and grandmothers. Some still here. Others sadly gone too soon. Some walkers had gone through breast cancer treatment themselves and one lady who’s mum would have been 60 on Thursday 18th.
We walked from Stonards Hill recreation ground, through the high street and on through Bell Common to the Forest Gate Inn, where owner Jane Stokes (who attends our classes) donated refreshments, including some delicious shortbread biscuits in exchange for donations to the charity.
We made quite a picture in the sunshine. Local bike riders saw our group and also contributed.
It was a great day, the weather stayed beautiful for us and all ages were represented. We are so pleased we took the plunge.
Charitable Donations
In total so far the event has raised over £350. Aside from the money raised it was a fantastic way to unite people in the town and to show solidarity and support to those we know who are or have been affected by breast cancer.
As fitness instructors and activity activists it was also fantastic to see so many people being active, together, for such a positive cause.
Ways to Support
If you would like to contribute to Breast Cancer Now, cash donations can be brought to class up until Thursday 1st November 2018. Alternatively you can text via the Breast Cancer Now website.
